چکیده

In this article we introduce combinatorial multi-color discrepancies and generalize several classical results from 2–color discrepancy theory to c colors (c ≥ 2). We give a recursive method that constructs c–colorings from approximations of 2–color discrepancies. This method works for a large class of theorems like the ‘six standard deviations’ theorem of Spencer, the Beck–Fiala theorem, the results of Matoušek, Welzl and Wernisch and Matoušek for bounded VC–dimension and Matoušek’s and Spencer’s upper bound for the arithmetic progressions. In particular, the c–color discrepancy of an arbitrary hypergraph (n vertices, m hyperedges) is O( √ n c logm). If m = O(n), then this bound improves to O( √ n c log c). On the other hand there are examples showing that discrepancy in c colors can not be bounded in terms of two-color discrepancies in general, even if c is a power of 2. For the linear discrepancy version of the Beck–Fiala theorem the recursive approach also fails. Here we extend the method of floating colors via tensor products of matrices to multicolorings and prove multi-color versions of the the Beck–Fiala theorem and the Barany– Grunberg theorem. Using properties of the tensor product we derive a lower bound for the c–color discrepancy of general hypergraphs. For the hypergraph of arithmetic progressions in {1, . . . , n} this yields a lower bound of 1 25 √ c 4 √ n for the discrepancy in c colors. The recursive method shows an upper bound of O(c−0.16 4 √ n).

A Robust Algorithm for Color Correction between Two Stereo Images

Most multi-camera vision applications assume a single common color response for all cameras. However, significant luminance and chrominance discrepancies among different camera views often exist due to the dissimilar radiometric characteristics of different cameras and the variation of lighting conditions. These discrepancies may severely affect the algorithms that depend on the color correspon...

Color Adjustment Based on Support Vector Regression for Multi- View Video

Significant color discrepancies between the different camera views can be observed in multi-view video sequences. In this paper, a color adjustment algorithm based on support vector regression is proposed. A mapping function is established by extracted feature points from original-image and target-image. Then the mapping function is applied to the original image to obtain the corrected image. E...

The color signature of the transit of HD 209458: Discrepancies between stellar atmospheric models and observations

Exoplanetary transits produce a double-horned color signature that is distinct from both binaries and blends and can thus be used to separate exoplanets from false positives in transit searches. Color photometry with precision sufficient to detect this signal in transits of HD 209458 is available in the literature. Analysis of these observations reveals that, while the signature does exhibit th...

Accretion Disk in Cyg X-1 in the Soft State

We analyze the simultaneous ASCA/RXTE observation of Cyg X-1 in the soft state on 1996 May 30. We apply a multi-color disk model with a torque-free boundary condition in the pseudo-Newtonian potential, and point out the main discrepancies between the commonly-used simplified 'diskbb' model and our one. We estimate the black hole mass and the accretion rate, and show that during this observation...

A rationale for the structure of color space.

The colors perceived by humans in response to light stimuli are generally described in terms of four color categories (reds, greens, blues and yellows), the members of which are systematically arrayed around gray. This broadly accepted description of color sensation differs fundamentally from the light that induces it, which is neither 'circular' nor categorical. What, then, accounts for these ...
